Deep Tissue Massage-Lower and Upper Body

                                         Upon completion of this course, students will demonstrate the                                        following competencies: 

  • Utilize and implement knowledge of anatomy to correctly assess problem areas in clients and develop an effective healing strategy.                                                      
  • Implement advanced Swedish and Deep Tissue techniques in order to effectively treat common tension areas in the shoulders, upper back, chest and neck ( Upper Body)  lower back, hips, legs and hip flexors ( Lower Body )                        
  • Understand and effectively employ trigger point release techniques.
  • Understand the difference between active and passive muscle release techniques and demonstrate the ability to use both techniques to effectively release muscle spasms and muscle tension.
  • Demonstrate skill in the application of proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation stretches in order to effectively release muscle tension and reduce muscle spasms.
  • Understand and the importance of employing Swedish massage techniques with regards to warming up muscles in preparation for deeper work and then soothing muscles after deep work has been completed. 
  • Work with the client’s breathing in order to reach and effectively release deeper levels of muscle tissue.
  • Understand and demonstrate correct body posture and hand positions in order to reduce the incidence of injury to the therapist.
